After School Programs

Currently, the McKim Center offers a year-round “STEM, Athletics, and Healing Arts” after-school program in partnership with the Baltimore Wisdom Project or Wisdom Projects, Inc. This free virtual program combines STEM, Athletics, and Healing Arts. Youth will learn about Environmental Justice, Urban Ecology, Life Science, Computational Math, and Plant Science while exploring soccer, volleyball, and basketball. They will grow plants indoors and discover hands-on scientific methods of observation, hypothesis, prediction, experimentation, and confirmation. They will make art and learn about dance and music in Baltimore and the African Diaspora. Youth and families will embrace Social and Emotional Learning, restorative justice, and mindfulness as they bond with one another, affirm themselves, and build community. Youth engage in pre-college enrichment lessons by scientists from Dr. Sacoby Wilson, Ph.D., M.S.’s Community Engagement, Environmental Justice, and Health (CEEJH) Laboratory (https://www.ceejhlab.org) at the University of Maryland’s School of Public Health. Youth go on wilderness expeditions to Woodberry Crossing and the Catoctin Quaker Camp. No tests. No grades. All fun.
